Your OneDrive folder can’t be created in the location you selected: What to do next

Your antivirus, firewall, or antimalware program might be interfering with OneDrive preventing the tool from launching or syncing your files. Exit OneDrive, disable your security tools and check if you can create your OneDrive folder in the location you desire.

Your OneDrive folder can’t be created in the location you selected

By the way, many users confirmed that Bitdefender may sometimes block OneDrive from creating a folder in a so-called protected space. Disable the protected files function in your antivirus settings, created your OneDrive folder, and then re-enable BitDefender.

I have OneDrive folder at default: C:\Users\MyUsername\OneDriveI want to move OneDrive to C:\OneDrive. So I select OneDrive Settings - Unlink PC, then log in to my OneDrive account again and chose C as the folder location. I got the message "Your OneDrive folder can't be created in the location you selected".

A strange observationAfter I unlink PC from my OneDrive and closed the app, I reopened it. OneDrive logs into a particular user automatically. This user is NOT the user that I last logged in with, but the user before that. And the folder location is back to C:\Users\MyUsername\OneDrive, not D:\OneDrive like for the previous user.

The location you were trying to create OneDrive folder belongs to a drive with an unsupported file system. To have OneDrive use a different location, click "Set up OneDrive" and point OneDrive to a NTFS drive. To use the existing location with OneDrive, you need to format it with NTFS and then click Set up OneDrive to configure your account.

Tip: You can quickly find the file system used for your drive or partition in its properties. Open File Explorer and go to the This PC folder. Then, right-click the drive and select "Properties" in the context menu. In the Properties window, see the line "File system:" as shown below.

Usually the system drive is formatted to NTFS on most modern PCs. However, if the default OneDrive location is on a FAT32 drive in your case (or you stored its files on an external drive or SD Card), you should move it to get the issue resolved.

The OneDrive Sync client's default storage location for synced files is on C drive in C:\Users\\OneDrive - University of Windsor folder. When your computer's C drive is running out of space, you can relocate the default OneDrive folder to another partition or another hard drive with more available space.

4. You'll now see the Set up OneDrive page, but don't try to set up your account just yet, as you want to move the content from the old to the new location. Relocating the content already available offline will help you to save time and bandwidth. Use the Windows key + E keyboard shortcut to open File Explorer.

If you need to change your OneDrive storage location from your computer to an SD card or other external storage source, you can do so as long as the external drive is non-ejectable. Removable USB drives are not supported.

The full path (including the file name) is too long. The path must contain fewer than 442 characters. Shorten the name of your file or the name of subfolders in OneDrive, or select a subfolder that's closer to the top-level folder, and then try to upload the file again.

The location you were trying to create OneDrive folder belongs to drive with an unsupported file system. To use the existing location with OneDrive, you need to format it with NTFS and then click Set up OneDrive to continue your account.

When someone shares a folder in Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint, or Teams, you can add a shortcut to the shared folder in your OneDrive to easily find and work with the files. These shortcuts appear in OneDrive on the web, Windows File Explorer, Mac Finder, Teams, and in the OneDrive mobile apps.

On a Windows PC, find the OneDrive folder with the name of your organization after it in Windows Explorer. For example, OneDrive - Contoso. On a Mac computer, use the Finder to locate the OneDrive folder.

While you can move shared files, you can't move shared folders on OneDrive.com. If you sync OneDrive to your computer, any shared folder you move is copied to the destination location and then removed from your OneDrive. It is still available in your Shared list.

This only removes the folder from your OneDrive - it's still accessible from your Shared list and doesn't affect the owner or anyone else sharing the folder. If you delete the folder instead, it's deleted from everyone's OneDrive and the folder owner would have to restore it.

I had to re-install OneDrive on my 10.9.2 MacBook Pro. To avoid duplicate files, I deleted the previous directory but going through setup, after specifying my home directory as location I get "Your OneDrive folder can't be created in the location you selected - Try a different location. Make sure that the location isn't on a removable drive, or on a disk that has a case-sensitive format." Of course none of these conditions are true. Repeated several times on multiple hard drive locations. Ideas on how to get by this?

We've recently implemented OneDrive for Business inside our Windows 10 environment. We've tried to automate the setup process by telling OneDrive to create our company-specific folder here: " %userprofile%\OneDrive for Business - OHM Advisors". Most of the time, this works - during the setup process, the user clicks on the OneDrive entry in their File Explorer, enters their email address, gets logged into OneDrive with their work account through SSO, then OneDrive creates their folder at the specified location and everything is good to go. However, we've noticed on a few occasions that the folder can't be created for whatever reason, even if the user has never used OneDrive on their computer before. When the setup gets to the step where the folder is created, it stops with this error:

While the issue is resolved, I don't like this "nuclear" option. It created a whole bunch of extra work for me (backing up files, changing ownership to make sure everything would delete properly, deleting folders, and having the user log back in and run the setup again) and doesn't really address the core issue. Has anyone else been able to fix this issue without nuking the user's entire profile?

Im having exactly the same problem, there is no constancy in when it occurs some users are fine and the folder creates others it errors as yours with your one drive folder cant be created. Did you ever get to the bottom of this or did you end up re-creating user profiles?
